Camp at Douglas Scrub & Kuitpo Forest

Last week, 78 Torrens students went on their camp to Douglas Scrub and Kuitpo Forest for 3 days of adventure, challenges and fun.  It was a different type of camp where students were expected to cook for themselves and sleep in tents for 1 night.  They were also provided challenges such as mountain bike riding and a combination of rock climbing and a high ropes course.  With each activity, students were faced with tests of courage, overcoming fears and moments where persistence and resilience were needed.

Students were responsible for the planning and packing of their own supplies and equipment for the camp, working together to bring the necessary food and water required as well as helping each other to continue doing their best.  Many students successfully met these criteria through being organised and following instructions and packing lists.  Some ‘over-packed’ for the expedition and found it challenging to carry their supplies.  However, all students who showed persistence and resilience made it to the end and can be extremely proud of their achievements.

This year’s camp was a testing one for students, parents and staff as it made many go outside of their comfort zones and become reliant on each other for support.  In Torrens, 'Aim High' is the motto we strive for on a daily basis and each of us made it back to school with smiles on our faces, having achieved this goal.

A BIG THANK YOU to Belinda Adams, Marie Oatway and Jim Beroukas for taking the time to come away on camp with us and making it such a memorable one for all.  We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.
