Prayer

This coming Monday, 8 August, is the Feast of St Mary MacKillop.  St Mary of the Cross is Australia's first saint.

The reading on the day of her canonisation was Matthew 6: 25-34.

Excerpts from this passage follow:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you wear.  Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life?  Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Some of her sayings are certainly 'food for thought' and important to reflect on in our own lives:

"Never see a need without doing something about it."

"We are all but travellers here."

"Believe in the whisperings of God to your own heart."

"Be eager in your desires but humbly patient in their accomplishment."

Bountiful and loving God,

You have filled the heart of Mary MacKillop with

compassionate love for those who are in need at

the margins of our society.

Deepen that love within us that we may embrace

the mystery of the Cross which leads us through death to life.

We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus who, having broken the bonds of death,

leads us to everlasting life.

HSC Trials

The HSC Trials have commenced well this week.  Students have been settled and applying themselves to the task as they head towards the culmination of their schooling. The exams will continue next week and the final Trial exam will be on Monday 15 August. Please continue to keep our Year 12 students in your prayers.

CSDA Debating - Grand Finalists!

Congratulations to our Year 12B CSDA Debating team who won their Semi Final last Friday evening and will now debate in the prestigious Grand Final this Friday against Loreto Normanhurst at OLMC Parramatta.  What a marvellous achievement for these students, who are also preparing for and sitting their HSC Trial exams at present.  The members of the 12B team are Will Ramsbottom, Max Leo, Will Staber and Ben Cullen.

Well done and congratulations also to the 10A Debating team who unfortunately were beaten in their Semi Final last Friday.

Rugby Dinner

We were fortunate to have ex-Wallaby Ben Darwin as our special guest at last Saturday's Rugby Club Dinner.  It was a great night for all involved.  We were also joined by Mr Mark Smith, a Gumbaynggirr man from St Mary's Bowraville, who acknowledged Country. Special thanks to Mr Paul O'Neill and the Committee for all their hard work and preparations for the evening.

Year 9 2023 Subject Selection Evening - Tonight

Tonight we are holding the Year 9 2023 (current Year 8) Subject Selection Evening.  The event will be held online.  All Year 8 parents/carers have today been emailed the links for the evening.
