Secondary Sport

QGSSSA Hockey

The girls played admirably as we only had ten on the field on the day. Thank you to Dave Lennon, who stepped in as a substitute Coach. Dave is well qualified with years of experience coaching girls club hockey and still playing himself. All players worked hard and especially once again our goalkeeper Georgia Waterson.

QGSSSA Netball

The round against St Peters Lutheran College provided some challenging contests for our netball teams.

In the Senior A’s, St Peters set the tone with several deflections in the first quarter as they got off to a flyer. Clayfield players looked for answers in the attack and tried to make an impact in the shooting circle. There were surges down the court, and heroic moments; despite their efforts, they recorded a 54-29 loss.

The Senior B’s confronted a tough match, which tested their endurance. Clayfield super shot specialists were injected early in the game in a bid to stay in touch with St Peters but were unable to level the score. The team rallied and fought hard for possession to claw their way back but were unable to make an impression, resulting in a loss of 59-8.

The Year 9B team may have been the underdogs, but they rose to the challenge, keeping the game alive. They lifted together and gathered momentum through each quarter, keeping the score line close. There were moments of dominance, highlighted in the final close score, St Peters 24 – Clayfield 14. So close girls!

Our Year 8B team spared no effort, with defenders continuing to come up with tips and touches. A huge shout-out to brand new players who covered vacant positions, knocking up intercepts and rebounds! The final score didn’t reflect their effort St Peters 41- Clayfield 8.The college netball program faced some tough opponents last week; however, we are very excited to give it our best shot against St Hilda’s this week.

QGSSSA Volleyball

With the booming QGSSSA volleyball season up and running, round two was a tough day for Clayfield, with all teams battling out against St Peters.

The Year 7 team went down to St Peters, but not without a fight. We saw strong serving, some impressive vertical leaps and incredible camaraderie among the players, taking one set to St Peters two.

The Year 8, 9, Senior A and Opens teams were spearheaded by passionate players, however, recorded losses of 0-3 for all games.

Our volleyball teams didn’t give up, making for some very exciting games. The Opens played some incredible volleyball maintaining the pressure, and narrowly lost the first set by just two points.

Overall, the serving was excellent, matched by enthusiasm and the manner in which the teams got around each other. Opportunities were taken and I am very proud of how all teams performed against one of the toughest opponents in the competition. The next round is an away game against St Hilda’s. Good luck, girls!

QGSSSA Tennis

The second round of winter fixtures began with a wet start after rain all-day Friday. It was Clayfield’s first home game for the season, and each team focused on accomplishing a result. It was a tough round for all teams; however, there were some outstanding performances by the girls.

The Opens girls lost 11-36, though the doubles performance was an improvement from last week. All players in the Senior A and Junior A teams returned to the court this week after recovering from sickness and other co-curricular commitments. The Senior A team concluded the day with close matches and an overall score of 20-33.

The Junior A girls dug deep, trying to bounce back after early losses in their matchups. Despite their efforts, they recorded a loss of 2-36. It was a standout effort by all involved, especially parents who watched from the sidelines. Congratulations to all players for challenging themselves in the St Peters encounter. Good luck against St Hilda’s in round 3.
