Faith Week

Rev. Paul Yarrow - College Chaplain

This week we have been celebrating Faith Week.  Each year the Chapel Captains organise and run this week of activities to remind us that God is at the heart of our school.  Jessica Homer and Zoe Lau, our 2022 Chapel Captains, have worked hard to put together the program, engaging students in a variety of ways each day.

The Senior school chapel on Monday started our week with the theme of “Big Ideas – Hope”.  Our guest speaker Rev. Fa Matangi talked about the way that God’s Spirit came upon the early followers of Jesus and brought unity and hope to people who had lost their focus and purpose in life.

Our chapel band led the songs for each of our services this week, and a big thank you goes to Arwen Abad, Connie Crowther, Heleni Pulu, Sophie Lloyd, Jessica Homer, Zoe Lau and Charlotte Sims for the effort and time they put into rehearsing the songs and leading in each of the services.

Some extra colour has been added around the chapel courtyard with our Faith Week bunting.  Strings of coloured flags display prayers of hope written by secondary students as part of the chapel services.  These flags brighten the courtyard in green, gold and blue reminding us that hope is a necessity of life and that God provides that for us all.

Primary students enjoyed some freshly made popcorn while watching a Veggie Tales cartoon in the chapel at lunchtime on Wednesday, and on Thursday, some of our Year 7 girls won the Bible Trivia Quiz after a tight contest between the teams.

As Faith Week concludes, we can be assured that God’s ‘Big Ideas’ for us continue each day.  Faith, hope and love are at the heart of the good news that Jesus offers for each of us.  God provides us with hope and enables us by the Spirit to embrace it and embody it for the sake of others.  In our world, which is far from what God desires it to be,  God’s big ideas inspire us to play our part in making our community more kind, forgiving, generous and hope-filled as we allow the Spirit to work in our lives.
