Performing Arts  Matters

This term we welcome a new member of our Performing Arts team, Jessica Chen. This is Jessica’s first full time appointment as she takes over from Paul Taylor. Paul has taken a position as Head of Strings at The King's School in Parramatta. We wish Paul well as we welcome Jessica to St Pius X College.

On a side note, last term I offered students in 5, 6 and 7 the opportunity to learn the violin with a view to building our numbers in this area. Happily we have around 12 students who have taken up this offer. Ms Chen will be leading this group and they will be contacted soon regarding their first rehearsal. If you would like your son to have this opportunity please email me for details, ATimmins@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

In the next few weeks will have the first of our in-school performance opportunities at the prize giving awards in the Concourse. Besides music there will be drama involved at the ceremony.

Outside of school our Senior Jazz Band will be performing with other bands at Forestville RSL on Wednesday 10 August. This will be an evening performance exact times to follow next week.

Watch this space for information regarding the Manly Jazz festival.

This Sunday (24 July) our Senior Drama HSC class will be presenting their Trial HSC performances commencing at 1.00 pm in the Sarto Centre. All are welcome to attend. Please see the invitation attached in the Drama Matters section.

Next Monday evening we will have our PAPA Meeting in Music Room 2. The gate will be open for parking on-site.

Year 10 Drama Excursion

In the final days of last term the Year 10 Drama group went out on a cold and wintery night to see a new adaptation of Ann Brontë’s compelling play “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall”. A brilliant piece of theatre not only for the narrative and wonderful acting but the outstanding set design. This is the reason we go to see live theatre – this multi-faceted set moved around showing different angles and at times seemed to represent the distraught and destructive situation the  lead character found herself in. We were all amazed at how contemporary the themes and issues were. A very impressive production.

Year 7 Drama

Students in Year 7 Drama created a visual chase from the stimulus of the “Wacky Races” cartoons. The idea was to have a villain and a hero involved in a chase. Students completed over 2 lessons. Outstanding work. Please see the photos attached.
