From the Senior Sports Master

Winter sport recommences this weekend with ISA Football and Tennis playing Round 8 of their competition and Rugby in ISA Round 3.

Training has started back up for all teams.

Next week Athletics training will start for the Term 3 Invitational Carnivals which commence in Week 4 and the ISA Carnival scheduled for Week 9.

Over the break, Coerver, in conjunction with the SPX Football Club, hosted a fantastic Training Camp at Oxford Falls and my thanks go to all involved.  In addition, the 1st XV Rugby Squad had a hugely successful tour to Queensland, playing both St Joseph’s, Gregory Terrace and Nudgee College in Brisbane.  Thanks go to everyone who made the tour possible.  Unfortunately, the 1st XI Footballers missed out on sport as the July Cup had to be cancelled due to the weather.

Please ensure that your sons are correctly equipped for their respective sports.  With the cold weather prevalent now, the College wet weather jacket and track pants are recommended as a warm top layer for Saturdays. Alternatively, boys should be in full sports uniform or Winter Uniform for Saturday Sport.

Finally, as COVID-19 makes a resurgence in the community, can I remind everyone for the need to be mindful regarding COVID safety at sporting events.  Please do your bit to keep our community safe.  Use hand sanitiser regularly, maintain your Social Distancing and stay away if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

I look forward to seeing you all throughout the term.

Mr Matt Stearn - Senior Sports Master

Senior Football

Sadly the weather forced the cancellation of the 1st XI July Cup Tournament during the holidays, however, we were very fortunate that the SPX Football camp was unaffected in the first week of the holidays.  It was great to see over 130 students attend the camp run by COERVER Football.  A big thank you to members of the SPX Football Supporters Club for their organisation of this successful event.

This weekend we see the return to the ISA season.  Many teams are in semi final contention, so hopefully strong results over the next few weeks will see many teams progress.

Fields can be found at the following locations:

Chifley Sports Reserve - 801-899R Bunnerong Road, Chifley

SPC 2: Francis St, Strathfield

Mason Park: Underwood Rd, Homebush

Good luck to all teams.

Mr Simon Yue - Senior Football Convenor

SPX Football Holiday Camp at Oxford Falls

A successful SPX Football holiday camp was held at Oxford Falls from Monday 27 June 2022 to Wednesday 29 June 2022 attended by 130 SPX boys from Years 5 to 10.

Thanks especially to Coerver Coaching, led by Jeff Hayes and Chris Semaan and their team of coaches for the fantastic football skills and game development provided to our SPX boys.  The boys developed their football skills and also had a lot of fun together.  We would also like to thank Mr Couani, Mr Yue, Mr Cummins and the SPX Oxford Falls grounds team for arranging this camp and Lorna Hammond, Cathy Thomson and Maureen Hurley Bryans from the SPX Football Supporters Club (FSC) and Julie Charlton from the SPX P&F for their organisation of the camp.

Bathurst Weekend Away Game – 13 August 2022 - date for the diary

St Pius X College travel to St Stanislaus’ on Saturday 13 August. Traditionally, many families use this as a weekend to getaway.

A bus will be available for those students who cannot make their own way to Bathurst, which will depart Anderson Street Chatswood at 6.15 am and return at the conclusion of the 1st XV match. Students will be asked to sign up to get the bus with the coaches over the coming weeks.

Rugby Supporters Club Committee Fundraising Events

The St Pius Rugby Supporters club raise funds that go directly back into the rugby program. In previous years, the Supporters Club provided significant funds for external coaching, rugby specific physio, tour contributions, tour clothing and kit. etc.

In recent years due to COVID-19, fundraising was put on hold, meaning the club is desperate to re-coup funds to contribute again during the 2022 Season.

It was agreed that the three fundraising focuses this season would be a Monster Raffle, the Rugby Club Dinner (on Saturday 30 July) and the Golf Day to be held later in the year.

The success of these events relies on the support of everyone in the Rugby Community. Please support the events above through your attendance and through selling raffle tickets when they become available.

Another way you could help is by reaching out to your known contacts to donate prizes for the raffle and Rugby dinner. In the past, prizes have included accommodation in venues like Noosa and the Hunter Valley, services like photography sessions provided, not to mention memorabilia, tickets to events, toys or sporting gear for children, money can’t buy experiences with celebrities or adrenaline-based activities to name a few. The rugby supporters committee is asking the community to come together and consider how they, or someone they know could donate to these events.

Please contact myself mgillogly@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au or Rugby Club President Paul O’Neill: paoneill21@gmail.com if you can contribute in any way.
