What's Happening in Upper Division

Teachers:  Ms Leah Miller, Mr Brad Hunt & Mrs Emma Schaeffer

What a busy time we have had over the last two weeks.  As part of our Education Week events, we have been involved in lots of workshops and activities to compliment the learning in our classroom.

The creative arts day at NECOM, NERAM and the Keeping Place provided us with lots of information about music, arts and local Aboriginal perspectives.  It was also great to meet up with our friends from Kelly's Plains, Kentucky and Kingstown.

We also enjoyed meeting our local schools for the rugby day as well!

Matt McKenzie came to visit us with some local wild life as part of some environmental science workshops here at school. Please see some photos below.

Please also see Sophia's amazing sketch of her yabbie!

Congratulations to Ben in year 5 for being selected to attend the Inquiring Minds program at Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre.  This is a gifted and talented program for gifted and talented students. Ben will be a part of the "STEM Solutions" program this term.  Well done Ben!

In class we have been working hard to complete our informative text unit of work in conjunction with our science topic of how man made and natural events change the environment.  We will publish some of a great work in an upcoming newsletter!

We have also enjoyed working with Miss Chloe Statham for the last three weeks. Chloe is about to complete her first practicum with us.  We wish Miss Statham all the best!

Check-in Assessments - Year 6

During weeks 8-10 of this term, our Year 6 students will participate in the Check-in assessment. The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning. The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Students will also complete a writing task. If you have any questions, please contact Mr Hunt at the school.
