Science Week - Thalgarrah Visit

Last week we had a visit from Barb & Matt from Thalgarrah for Science Week. We got to have a hold of some meal worms and learn about their role in the food chain. As well as meet their bearded lizard and 'Sophie' the snake.

After recess, Barb read us the story The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins. We learned about how wind uses a push force and tested how it works with an experiment using a ball pump and ping pong ball. We even got to create our own obstacle course using blocks for the ball to go through.

Lastly, Barb read us the story, The Ugly Bug by Liz Pichon.  It was about a very ugly bug, with spotted legs, googly eyes and a horrible hairy back. She wonders why her friends have pretty small eyes, shiny green backs, or nice fluttery wings. The ugly bug thought that if she looked like her friends, then she would be more beautiful. So she made herself a disguise. But her new costume made her even tastier looking to the birds! When a bird swoops down to gobble up the disguised ugly bug, something strange happens... The big scare made the very ugly bug even uglier! So ugly in fact, that the bird was scared away. The ugly bug learns that just being herself is the best defense. We then went out and made our own ugly bugs using clay and parts of nature that we found on the playground.

Overall it was a fantastic day and we had lots of fun!

Student of the Week!

In Lower Division we have started 'Student of the Week'. Each Friday the students vote for who they think has demonstrated all of our keys to success! These are Persistence, Resilience, Confidence, Getting Along, Organised & Community. The winner of the week gets to wear a badge for the week and choose 2 reward cards.
