Primary Inter-house Athletics Carnival 2022- Years 2 to 6

On Tuesday, students in Years 2 to 6 participated in the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. Bowden Park was a sea of colour as everybody cheered along with fellow members of their house group.

The students displayed their best efforts as they participated enthusiastically in sprints, long jump, high jump and shot-put events. The Year 6 House Tug-of-War was an exciting way to finish the carnival, and a big congratulations must go to Radcliffe for taking out the tug-of-war title for 2022.

Age Champions will be announced at our end-of-term Sports Assembly, along with the winning house. Get ready for a big surprise.

Secondary Sport

QGSSSA Winter Fixtures

Hockey

The Open team went down 5-0. However, the team are working well together and learning how to adapt to changing positions as we lose key players, such as our goalie due to an injury at halftime last Saturday.

The players' resilience and persistence have been admirable. Of particular note is our youngest player, Charlotte Strickland (Year 7), who played with tremendous thought and consistency. The older, more experienced players have been nothing but encouraging to the younger, less experienced ones.

Both teams will head to the University of Queensland Fields on Saturday and take on Moreton Bay College.

Netball

The Senior A team continued their winning form with a convincing win of 41-23 over IGGS. Gameplay was fast, and the team worked exceptionally well together, demonstrating cohesion. Well done to Jasmine and Tara for their shooting and to Charli and Ella for their incredible defence.

The Senior B teams played tirelessly, with both sides mounting attacks right through until the final siren. Exceptionally strong shooting by IGGS led to their team winning 54-6. The enthusiasm and constant commitment of the Clayfield players was brilliant to see. A special shout out to newcomer Cameron who had an outstanding game as GK, and to captain Kate at GD.

The 8B team played was resolute in their pursuit of goals, playing a very good match against IGGS but lost the battle 31-17 in a game that was tighter than the final score line indicated. Both teams are commended for their encouragement of each other and their “never give up” attitude.

Tennis

We were forced to cancel Round 4 fixtures after the rainfall on Friday night forced a ‘washout’. Our tennis players will resume play by hitting the courts for round 5 at Churchie this weekend against Moreton Bay College.

Volleyball

Round four of QGSSSA Volleyball season saw many of our teams rewarded with their first win! Three of the five scheduled games saw Clayfield triumph over Ipswich Girls’ Grammar without any real sign of trouble over the course of their matches.

Our Year 7 team dropped one set to IGGS, taking the win 2-1 in a match with great serving and improved passing.

It was business as usual as our other teams took to the courts and stepped up to the line. The Year 9 and Opens team won in straight sets 3-0, dominating at the net and showing grit and determination. Additionally, almost a quarter of the total points resulted from system plays to the opposing team’s floor.

The Senior A and Year 8 team went down to IGGS 1 -2 to Ipswich, but not without a contest, winning one set each.

All teams played exceptionally well, and there was a particularly high standard of serving across all year levels. There’s no doubt that the almost perfect serving record of the Opens team helped them secure their first win of the season. Great effort girls!

Congratulations to all teams for such excellent results. It’s great to see everyone having fun and trying their best on the court. On Saturday, our teams will head to Moreton Bay College for Round 5 of the QGSSSA Winter Fixtures season.
