MEET THE TEAM

Regina Bishop - Literacy Tutor

I am an English/Literacy teacher with qualifications and many years experience working with lovely young people who have specific learning needs, gaps in their skills or who need the challenge of higher-level work. I am always amazed by the resilience and positive outlook most of these students have regardless of their educational needs and consequently, the progress they make. In recent years, I have undertaken educational research, post-graduate study and professional development into the crucial role wellbeing plays in learning, and together with the students explore how we can incorporate this into the Tutoring program to benefit all.

Lucy Duckett - Literacy Tutor

The teaching experience I have gained over the last 6 years at Surfcoast Secondary College has provided me with opportunities to focus on developing Literacy within my students. My teaching areas are English and Physical Education, however I believe Literacy skills underpin many of the core areas both in schooling and life. Therefore I share and value the commitment our college has to improving Literacy for all learners at all levels. I am excited to be back in the classroom once again, honing my skills and helping our students to do the same.

Alison Clarkson - Numeracy Tutor

Over the years I have worked in large schools in Melbourne’s west. These experiences have led to a variety of roles within the STEM departments. My passion for teaching started with the Sciences and evolved into STEM education. Over the years I have implemented and facilitated a Makerspace which upskilled staff and students using various construction and technological tools such as 3D pens, Robotics, creating VR worlds and interactive electronic displays. I’m always striving to engage and encourage students to take on the STEM subjects and offer students unique and encapsulating curriculum experiences. I’m excited to be part of the SCSC community and always up for a chat about anything nerdy ;-)

Anthony O’Connor - Numeracy Tutor

Most of my teaching has been in Catholic Secondary Colleges over several decades. My teaching areas are Mathematics (Further Maths at year 12), Economics, Business Management and Accounting. However, when asked what do I teach, my response is people. Teaching is a people business and working with and alongside students and staff is my inspiration, motivation and challenge. Last year I worked at Sacred Heart College in a tutoring role, a teaching role covering for a LSL position and some CRT work. When I moved to Geelong from Mildura I sought out a different challenge and I worked for BoxHill TAFE teaching maths and micro business in a correctional facility. I hope that I can be of benefit in challenging, supporting and motivating our students here at SCSC.

Tips on keeping your family safe online

Start the chat

Get into the habit of talking about online safety as a family, so your child feels comfortable coming to you if they ever need help working out an issue.  It’s never too early to introduce good online habits such as respect, empathy, critical thinking, responsible behaviour and resilience. As your child grows older, eSafety’s advice about hard to have conversations will help with some of the tricky topics like sending nudes, online pornography and contact from sexual predators.
