Wear it Purple

Friday morning the school took a group of students from our LGBTQIA+ community to Orange High School to celebrate "Wear it Purple" day.

Students had the opportunity to have a "Cuppa with a Coppa" (hot chocolate) and connect with other students in the community. We all had a wonderful time making new friends. It was great to see students from both schools mingling and sharing interests. Unfortunately we are unable to share photos of the students together, but we were able to catch up with Mrs Cheetham and grab a snap or 2 with her.

Thank you to Jess Huggett (Mrs Huggett's daughter and teacher at OHS) for inviting us, and Jess Martin (LGBTQIA+ Police Liaison Officer) for organising.

Book Week

Dreaming with eyes open

Anson Street School had fun celebrating the last day of Education Week with a book parade. There were some very creative costumes to be seen! Congratulations to the Book Parade winners: Myah, Bella, Caiden, Jai and Charlie who received a gift card to Collins Bookstore and to the runners up who also received a prize.

Art on Anson

The Art on Anson opening was on Friday 26 August with over 30 school and community members attending. We were privileged to have local artist Jane Tonks open the exhibition. Numerous community members and families took the opportunity to view the exhibition during Education Week.

Congratulationsto our wonderful students on producing such beautiful artworks. Thank you to Mrs Cathy Huggett for guiding our students and supporting staff in every classroom to try all kinds of art forms. Thank you also to Mr Ray Windsor, pottery teacher.

Class 19

Bee-autiful

Acrylic paint, canvas, wooden shapes & metallic pens.

The students gained inspiration from a variety of images and selected a colour palate that was incorporated throughout the room.

Larger flowers were painted with layers added each week to build texture. Metallic pens and white paint were used to fill space and balance the composition. Wooden butterflies were glued to add depth.

This symbolises harmony & growth. “Bee-autiful” reflects the students own struggles with self-esteem and to inspire positivity.

Art on Anson cards are for sale at the school's administration office.

Education Week

Each stage ran activities and had a morning tea for their parents and carers last week to celebrate Education Week (see 'In the classroom' section). We also had many community members and special guests visit the school, one of whom was Mr Phil Donato MP.

Our school captains Nathaniel and Alex proudly showed him the Skills House, Engine Room, spa, gym, playgrounds and farm. They also had a tour of Art on Anson with Mrs Huggett. In the cafe, Alex made Mr Donato a coffee whilst Nathaniel engaged him in robust conversations about politics and voting (some of which can be viewed on Mr Donato’s FB page). We thank Mr Donato for his time and ongoing support of our school.
