Performing Arts  Matters

Congratulations to Ms Penny Lindley and the students in our HSC Drama class on their showcase last Sunday. We were shown their group project and 4 individual projects including a film and 3 monologues. Well done to Will Ramsbottom, Joshua Squires, Jamie Todd and William Walsh-Penny for your hard work and dedication to your drama work, I’m sure it will pay off in your upcoming HSC examinations. Well done to the support crew that assisted with lighting and stage managing and filming. In particular, Nick Rondeau (Year 11), Michael Krizan (Year 10), Liam Hartley (Year 10) and Cavan Ryan (Year 11). Thank you to these students in the smooth running of Sundays showcase.

We are pleased to advise that we have just had a modern LED lighting rig installed into the Sarto for a more “professional” look to our productions. I will look to expand the performance profile of the Sarto in the future.

I would also like to thank PAPA for all their hard work supporting all the members of the performing arts at SPX. Last Sunday they provided lunch for the cast and crew and provided drinks and popcorn for the audience. PAPA then backed up with our meeting last night in preparation for the Term 3 Farewell to Year 12 Twilight Concert and upcoming Climate Change Project Movie Night. Check your calendars.

I would also like to re advertise that there is room on the PAPA committee for more voices and helpers. If you are interested please contact the President of PAPA directly at chellegodfrey@bigpond.com.

Due to imminent departure of our Year 12’s at the end of the term and the step up by the members of the Intermediate Band into the Senior Band it has been decided that there is a reshuffle of our concert bands. The Primary Concert Band will remain as is but our current Junior Band will become Middle School Concert Band and will be for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students. The Senior Band will remain as is and cater for our Year 10,11 and 12 students. There will always be movement up in the bands as required and based on skills. Students will be moved into these bands automatically I trust this gives a clearer picture of our band levels and contributes to the ongoing development of these groups.

I am excited to take a group of music students into the refurbished concert hall of the Opera House for a Sydney Symphony concert. Reports are that the new acoustics and stage and hall set up are amazing. I’ll report back next week.

Drama Matters

Students from Year 10 & 11 Drama will take part in an incursion on Friday morning in the Sarto. This will be led by a workshop leader from Belvoir Street Theatre. The students will be working practically on the techniques and ideas of Brecht. Students should go to roll call (assembly) and head up to the Sarto for 8.45 am. This is a 2 hour workshop. See letter for more details.
