The SRC – Off and Running!

Our 2021 SRC members

2021 has already sent us some curve balls – but the SRC is up and running again, and won’t let anything stop them!

We have a full cohort of 31 members, including 5 representing VCAL and 3 representing the International students. Our 7 Year 7s joined us recently and have added vibrancy to an already motivated and enthusiastic group!

Immersion Day

March 11th, 2021 saw the SRC coming together for its annual ‘Immersion Day’, when friendships are made across the year levels, training is run, issues are discussed and events planned for the year’s calendar.

The jam packed day was organized and run by the students - old and new. They collaborated with staff to ensure all equipment and resources were available and accessible. They structured the agenda for the day…and followed it to a T.

Oberon Year 9 – ‘Today was fun, productive, good for getting to know names…interesting.’

Charlotte Year 7 – ‘Today was very fun and the teambuilding games were very helpful. I loved the experience and I would do it again!’

Captain Comments

The ‘Teach the Teacher’ program is up and running again at the college and this year the SRC are set to focus on improving Teacher - Student relationships, particularly in the handling of bullying. Currently, SRC members are undertaking research into the issue and how it affects the college This research will inform them on the direction they need to take to begin solving the problem. This program will be the main focus of the SRC's time over the next few months. They are also planning several events to champion different causes this year, such as ‘Diversity and Inclusivity’, Indigenous issues, our awareness of the community and the environment. While none have been definitively set in stone, at the moment the college calendar is looking exciting for 2021.There are also a couple of larger, ongoing projects that the SRC are looking at tackling around the college. Overall, the 2021 SRC is excited to get started on these projects that can hopefully make positive changes for, not only the students and the college, but the community as a whole. Please keep an eye out as we may be asking for your help over the year!
