From the Principal

PREP INFORMATION NIGHT
Last night we held our information evening for parents of our new 2018 preps. It was lovely to meet new families and welcome them into the Murrumbeena Primary School community. I was so excited to meet my first Prep group as the new principal of our school and I am sure they are all looking forward to a new and exciting chapter in their children’s development.
Thanks to the staff who attended the night. I know families on the way out said they really enjoyed seeing the Prep videos that Mrs Eason prepared, and they have begun their PYP learning journey with Miss Van Loon. We look forward to seeing them in their final transition session on 12th December.
CARNIVAL 2017
As we said last week, the carnival was an amazing school event and final figures for this major fundraiser are not yet exact, as we are still trying to sell some goods not sold due to the rain on the day.
We will be running some stalls after school on Thursdays and we will send out notices soon about Christmas card sales. We are also selling cans of soft drink by the dozen, which are available via the school office.
At this stage, we believe our fantastic community raised approximately $50,000, so well done on a great achievement.
KELLY O’DWYER’S CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION
Congratulations to the finalists of the Christmas card competition. Each finalist was awarded a certificate at a special breakfast presentation last Friday. Unfortunately, I had a prior commitment and was unable to attend, so I thank those families who attended and received their award.
CLASS ORGANISATION AND STAFFING FOR 2018
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Nerida Burns on her provisional appointment as assistant principal at Richmond Primary School. Mrs Burns has been at Murrumbeena for a long time, leading and coordinating junior grades, as well as numeracy across the school. This is a wonderful opportunity for her to continue her leadership journey and we wish her all the best for 2018 at her new school.
We have completed a number of interviews in recent weeks and so far have appointed three new staff to cover family leave vacancies. Another two staff are still to be confirmed to cover those on leave. As stated in previous newsletters, during 2018, we will be running 22 straight grades.
