Principal's Report

A few thank yous are needed to be said after a wonderful week here at LPS.

Firstly, to Mr Smith and our 3-6 teachers for running a highly successful Athletics Day at Ballam Park.  The weeks of planning and communicating is time consuming and complex at times.  I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the kids back participating in front of their parents.  Congratulations to all the students for participating and showing great sportsmanship!

Secondly, to the Grade 2 team for providing us with a terrific assembly on Monday.  It’s so nice to see the kids perform again and get our week started off positively.

Thirdly to all staff and parents for catching up last week at parent/teacher interviews to discuss student goals for 2021.  It is so important to establish positive relationships and a clear direction at the beginning of a school year.

Parking and pick up

The last thing I want is members of our community coming in upset that their driveway was blocked or they witnessed dangerous driving behaviours from our parents.  This has happened twice this week and quite frankly it is concerning.  No one has the right to park across someone else’s driveway and I implore you to drive safely, especially around our school.

If you utilise our pick up zone, we have all children picked up safely in 15-17 minutes. You can also utilise the church parking and walk up to pick your child up.  We know it’s not perfect at pick up time but no school ever is. That’s why I expect parents (adults) to be patient and follow the rules of the road.  This means all students will go home safe each night!

eSafety

Being an “eSafe” school, we spend time in most ICT lessons educating our students (especially the Grade 5 and 6 students) about having an appropriate online presence. Unfortunately some children forget the message and do not conduct themselves appropriately online.  Now is a great opportunity to have a quick discussion within the home about:

  • Being sensible online
  • Being safe online
  • What to do if you don’t like what is happening online.

Do you know all of the apps your child is using and who they interact with in those apps? Unfortunately throughout the year I receive screen shots of inappropriate actions/comments online.  When parents are contacted they are shocked that their child was the one that wrote that or posted that.

As adults, we need to continue to have open conversation with our kids about their online use, continue to educate them (and ourselves) and ensure our kids are using age appropriate apps.

Have a great week,
