Outstanding Super 8s Cricket result!

On Thursday 11 February, eight students from Primary competed in the annual Super 8's Gala Day, held at Reed Park, Dapto.

Last year we managed to win the championship, so we were keen to try our best to keep the title.

Congratulations to Toby G, Myles C, James M, Chris M, Caleb Mc (c), Jaxon S, Thomas H and Harry D. These boys played very good cricket to get to the final, in the end, only losing by a couple of runs.

Scores were as follows:

Game 1: NCS 0/81 beat Southern Highlands CS 6/41

Game 2: NCS 2/59 beat Sutherland CS 7/48

Game 3 NCS 3/29 lost to William Carey CS 3/33

Well done to all the team for their impressive skill with the bat, the ball and in the field!

The heat is on in Year 7 Science

Year 7 students worked to earn their licence to use a Bunsen Burner in Science last week!

This process involved identifying general safety features and procedures in the laboratory as well as safety specific to the Bunsen Burner. Students then put theory into practice as they took turns demonstrating their ability to safely light and use a Bunsen Burner to boil some water.

Students applied the scientific method to explore what causes water droplets to form on the side of a beaker when boiling water. Congratulations Year 7, on a brilliant start to your learning journey in Secondary Science so far!

NCS 2020 Primary Leaders set a High Bar

Last year, the School Board granted permission for our Primary School to install some new play equipment.

After some consultation sessions with staff, our Primary prefects and house leaders were asked to review and choose suitable equipment aimed at the Years 3-6 age group. Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic slowed down manufacture, shipping and installation of the equipment.

Thankfully, everyone involved worked hard to ensure the equipment was ready for the beginning of this term. Our Year 7 students have been able to enjoy it as well! As you can see from the before and after photos, the playground has been improved and students are enjoying the new equipment every day.

La Chandeleur

La Chandeleur (Candlemas) is celebrated by cooking crepes and is the final Christmas activity on the French calendar. Being 40 days after Jesus's birth, it remembers the presentation of Jesus at the temple and Mary's purification. Candles (les chandelles) are lit and prayers are offered for the success of the year ahead. It is so appropriate that we celebrate this way with Year 8 as they begin their journey in French. So we cooked crepes (some say that they symbolize the sun and thus bring hope in the midst of the northern hemisphere winter), lit a candle and said a prayer in French, asking for blessing on our time together.

ps. There may have been some burnt offerings on the day!

Not just 'horsing' around

In the Summer holidays, Indigo P (Year 5) took part in the Interschools Horse Riding competition in Berry, representing NCS. She rode her horse, 'Patience' in several events, including 'hacking' and 'sporting'.

'Hacking' is where you and your horse need to look 'posh', fancy and clean. When you ride, the judge would tell you to do a course in an arena. Whoever rode the course the best would win a ribbon. 'Sporting', on the other hand, is based on a timed event. For example 'western bending' is when you ride the horse straight up, bending in and out of poles all the way up and back again. Whoever is the fastest would win the event.

To compete, I had to wear cream coloured jodhpurs, a red short sleeved shirt for hacking and a sport t-shirt for sporting. I did hacking on Saturday and sporting on Sunday. I also managed to compete in the recent Nowra Show's equestrian events, but that's another story! Overall I absolutely loved representing our school at the event in Berry. If there's anyone out there who would like to try horse riding, I would recommend it. Indigo P
