News for SLC

In SLC so far, we have been focusing on poems in writing, we have created acrostic, haiku, and rhyming poems. The picture above is an example of one of our acrostic poems.

In class, we have been reading “Once” by Morris Gleitzman. This book is about a boy in Poland in an orphanage during World War 2. SLC has created a front cover to the book of their favourite scene as shown in the picture above.

Our Inquiry topic of 'Identity’, has been playing a part in every subject as we are learning about how to describe ourselves, our community, and the world using characteristics.

Also, we have started to learn how to write exciting narratives and in doing so, we are banning anything that is boring in our writing. For example  in the photo above, certain phrases or clichés can be overused as well as any other phrases that the students deem boring. This coincides with 'The Seven Steps to Writing Success' which we have adopted as our whole school approach.

Finally, we have been looking at Ethics and Emotions for Inquiry and within this we have looked at ‘change’ and how our age can change our physical and mental state. We then looked at how we can keep our bodies healthy and we brainstormed about ‘Hygiene’ and what makes good hygiene especially in recent times. The students then made posters about one of the ways they can improve their own hygiene.
