News from JLC

What an exciting start JLC has had to the 2021 school year! We are enjoying getting to know the children and are busy establishing positive relationships and routines in the classroom. Some of our favourite activities so far include constructing rafts in STEM, our holiday snapshots, mindfulness, and the Year of the Ox masks.

Working in groups, the children were challenged to create a raft using plastic straws and masking tape. The aim was to see which group’s raft could hold the most marbles before sinking. There were some very creative designs, including some with masts and flags, and the children were able to test and modify their rafts in order to improve on them. The most successful rafts were able to hold over 100 marbles before sinking!

JLC students have also proven themselves to be very creative in terms of drawing and colouring. They enjoy making their work look attractive and colouring or drawing is a very popular activity during mindfulness. If any family has any colouring books they would be happy to donate to our class to use during this time we would be most grateful.

Here are some photos of the children constructing and testing their rafts and some of their work on display.
