Student Wellbeing

WELLBEING GROUPS AND STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

Each Tuesday afternoon, the children participate in Wellbeing Groups. These groups are multi-age across the school allowing students the opportunities to collaborate across year levels, for our Senior students to lead and for all students to make new friends. Each group participates in a fun and engaging activity with the aim of improving student wellbeing. The students rotate to a different activity each week so that they experience all of the activities.

During Term 1, the activities included cooking of taco boats with Mrs Maher and Ms Durrant, art with Mr Brophy and Mr Cirillo, and card games with Miss Wills. This year, I have added a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) element to our Wellbeing Groups at the request of our students demonstrating that student voice at our school is strong and valued. Geraldine Nicholas has joined our team and will run a STEM activity each week. Geraldine is a Secondary Science Teacher who also coordinates our Gifted Program.

Mrs Robyn Thomson

Principal

I am so proud to have been appointed St Bridget's Well-being Leader for 2021. This term in Well-being, we have been focusing on setting up a new Well-being framework for the school. Robyn and I have been working with Veronica Baum from the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) using a framework called eXcel. This will help us to continue to ensure all of our students feel safe and supported. Our aim is to connect with students, staff, parents and the wider community to explore the nature and importance of well-being and how it is enacted in Catholic schools.

We have started our journey by focusing on student voice. I have been working closely with our Student Representative Council (SRC) and the School Captains to create a space where students can be heard. The SRC will help us to make decisions for the school that create and sustain a happier and safer environment for all. Each SRC member was chosen by their peers to represent their interests. Congratulations to the SRC representatives of Semester 1 of 2021:
