PYP Around the School

All of the restrictions of late have meant that many parents have not been able to visit classrooms and learning spaces as freely as in the past. This means that much of the work and thinking that goes on the walls is unseen by our wider community. In today’s newsletter, I wanted to give you a glimpse into the work our St Columba’s students have been doing around the IB learner profile. The IB learner profile is a set of ten attributes that combined create the profile of a person who is a lifelong learner who is internationationally minded.  The IB learner profile is at the heart of every IB programme. It goes beyond academic success instead bringing a holistic perspective to the development of learners in our school. As a staff, we also aspire to live and model the attributes of the learner profile and we encourage all members of our community to become familiar with the attributes and to embrace them in their own lives.

The IB learner profile attributes are listed below. Often they follow the sentence starter ‘We strive to be’: Reflective, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, thinkers, open-minded, communicators, balanced, inquirers

There are many ways our students have explored the IB learner profile so far. Examples include, brainstorms, picture storybooks, role plays, photographs and poster design. Students in our upper grades have also reflected on their own strengths in terms of the learner profile attributes and considered the ways they can continue to grow these attributes over this year.
