Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

In Maths, Prep students have been learning about the numbers 0-10. They have learnt to identify these numbers as numerals, words and collections. They have also learnt to sequence these numbers and to say one more and one less. The students have enjoyed a range of hands-on activities to apply and consolidate their learning.

Grade 1

This term in Inquiry, Grade 1 has been learning about communities. This week, the Grade 1 children thought about the things they believe a town community needs e.g. schools, supermarkets, hospitals, police station, restaurants. On Thursday, the students created their own town communities using recycled objects. We had so much fun creating our communities and thank all the families who brought in recycled objects for us to use. Please see our photos below!

Grade 2

Last week we were fortunate enough to have two special visitors. We had Miss Maddie's family members, Miss Tish and Mr Andrew, present to our Grade 2's about what they do as a job and how it contributes to the community. Student's learnt about what an engineer and a pharmacist do to help our communities stay safe. Our students asked some great questions which our visitors enjoyed answering. We were very proud with their respectful listening and engagement.

Grade 3 - Family Snapshots

Thank you to all the families trying their best with the NAPLAN Family Snapshots. It was so great to see that approximately 30 families tried their hand at the Maths and Reading Snapshot.

Take a look at how our families went with the NAPLAN Power User questions (the trickier NAPLAN questions).

Family Snapshots come out weekly. Why not give them a go?

What Are We Learning In Grade 3/4?

Inquiry

We have begun to wrap up our unit on First Contact by beginning an independent inquiry project. Each student has chosen a topic and spent some time researching. On Thursday, we took the tram to Melbourne Museum, where we explored the First Peoples exhibit, learning more about the traditional owners of the land we now call Melbourne. Thank you so much to our lovely parent helpers who came along!

Grade 5 and 6

This term we have been learning about living and growing and how we change physically and emotionally as we get older. The Grade 5 and 6 students did a wonderful job at being mature, respectful and caring when they were engaging in these sessions. Our students have also been learning about friendships and what makes a strong, supportive friend.

In Inquiry, we have been learning about democracies. Within this topic, students have explored what elections are like and all about governments and laws in Australia. In Week 9, it was a special moment for us when we took our class photographs on Wednesday. The Grade 6's enjoyed taking their last ever school photos at South Melbourne Primary School! Here is a silly one we took afterwards.
