New Uniforms

With much thought and discussion, as well as input from the P & C, staff and children we finally have our new uniforms! The children look great in the new blue and purple colours and the stars add a little positive touch to the way our uniform represents Larnook Public School. Each child was provided with one new shirt and others may be purchased through the school for $30. On the subject of uniforms, we have also been keeping track of school hats (which in the past have mysteriously disappeared at times!) and are impressed with the way the children have been looking after and wearing their hats at school.

The Dragonflies have been concentrating on learning and revising sounds such as h and j and are moving into l, m n and p over the next couple of weeks. They are having a lot of fun learning sounds through the creation of “Handprint Art” (see front page and other pictures). It’s amazing what can be created with just a single handprint! Reading activities have commenced for older children and the Maths focus is Number (counting, reading, writing and ordering numbers) and Year Two are looking at Addition.

The Butterflies are establishing reading group routines, learning to use the Reading Box and some are taking on independent work contracts. We are also focussing on Number, specifically place value and reading and writing larger numbers. Presenting your best work has been a focus of the last few weeks.

Behaviour in our classrooms and in the playground has been generally very pleasing this term and we have seen a definite increase in good manners and problem-solving skills. This makes all of us at school happier and more productive, which is great.

Professional Learning

All school staff are required to regularly participate in Professional Learning. Much of this is provided by the Department of Education and some is mandatory. Other learning can be sourced from outside government organisations, but all must promote learning, education and the welfare of children, staff and communities. Training is often online, but courses are also held at other venues. This year, staff have participated in Bushfire Awareness Training, Code of Conduct, First Aid, Child Protection and Data Collection. All staff also attended a whole day workshop about Autism at Nimbin Central School.

On Monday 8th March and Tuesday 9th of March Mrs Emerton and Mrs Mac will be attending Professional Learning around Aboriginal Languages. Ms Fish and Ms Treasure will fill in for the days.
