Pastoral Care-Worker News

It has been a busy term and a busy year at HEPS during 2019!!

During this year I have managed to run four What’s the Buzz groups (for social awareness and skills) as well as two Seasons for Growth Groups (for Grief and Loss) plus I have continued to run a Girl’s lunchtime program all year with different groups of mainly Year 7’s called ‘Superchicks’.

In the run up to Easter, I organised a ‘Kids Bizz’ group to explore the traditional meaning of Easter through a quick story and making some Craft items, which the kids all loved.

During the last two terms I have also set up both a Girl’s and Boy’s well-being group to support students who were struggling with some mental health matters. I also speak to a lot of children one on one to talk about various issues – a lot of them related to their mental health and well-being.

Chaplains (Pastoral Care-Workers) are in schools to support families, staff and students. Chaplains are well trained to deal with any emergency and to support well-being in schools as part of a larger team. We are on the coal face as it were and I know we make a huge difference in our student’s lives.

Christmas is around the corner and I know this can be a stressful time for many families! I will be giving away eight Xmas Hampers to HEPS families, through my Church, and this would not have been possible without the kind donations from staff and families at school, so I want to give you all a huge Thank you for that!!

I hope that your Christmas season is filled with fun, laughter and love and that you have a safe and Happy New Year. I will see you all next year!!

Every Blessing,

Cherie
