Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Sustainability Market

The Galilee Sustainability Market, Wow! What a success yesterday afternoon's market was. We can not thank the parents, staff and children enough for all the time and effort that was put in leading up to the market as well as helping on the day at stalls. Galilee was buzzing with children, parents and staff making all kinds of things made from recycled materials or they made reusable products.

There was great support from our parent community, from making honey joys in the morning, to preparing hot chocolate in the afternoon. We also had parents selling the food and drink in the Hall and helping their children sell products at the stalls. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the market a success.

Arriving to School on Time

There are still a number of students arriving late to school and as mentioned previously, it is important students arrive at school on time for them to learn and be part of school routines. Here is a link for some handy tips to make your morning smoother and help get your child ready on time: https://www.learningpotential.gov.au/5-tips-to-help-get-ready-for-school-in-the-morning

Reports

Semester One Student Reports will be emailed home later this afteroon, Friday June 22.

Galilee’s Student Reports are in line with the reporting standards of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Your child’s report will be made accessible electronically, via a Parent Portal, for you to read and discuss with your child.

In Semester Two of 2017, we made a number of changes to our Reporting based upon feedback given by staff and our School Improvement Team (consisting of students, staff and teachers) with a greater emphasis on providing detailed checklists indicating student achievement.

Not all dimensions of a Learning Area are reported on each semester. If a child is showing the same result as the end of Semester Two 2017, this does not mean that progress has not occurred. Progress is not always even and each child has his/her own rate of learning. Each increment represents six month’s growth and your child may still be progressing but consolidating what has been learnt previously, (your child may have shown five month’s growth but not moved up an increment).

The Report will provide you with an overview of your child’s achievements and assist in strengthening our family-school partnership. The Report is intended to promote discussion about how we can work together to benefit your child. If you have any questions, please discuss them at the upcoming Student-Led Conferences. A Caremonkey note will also be sent home once the Report is available, providing you with an opportunity to communicate questions you would like to discuss at the conferences.

Music Soirees

On Tuesday and Wednesday night, instrumental music students showcased what they've been learning so far this year. Thank you to Anita (Voice), Tim (Keyboard), Trent (Guitar), Katie (Violin) and Richard (Drums) for teaching and preparing the students throughout the year.

Student Led Conferences

For those families who have booked in for a Student-Led Conference, they will be held next week on Monday 25th and Wednesday 27th. If you need to make a booking, please call Wendy or Tegan 96992928.

These conferences are designed for your child to discuss what they've been learning and working on. Towards the end of the conference, parents will have an opportunity to discuss the student's school report/ class work. A CareMonkey form will be sent home today for you to record a few questions for the class teacher relevant to your child's school report.

A reminder students will finish school at 1.30pm on Monday and normal 3.25pm finish time Wednesday.
