Pathways & Transition

At the beginning of the year, on the wall of the Pathways Office, I hung this quote from Pope John XXIII. As we know, he was a very wise and humble man who faced and survived many challenges, just as we are facing now. He also made the most of his opportunities to make a difference.  This week’s article is full of opportunities!

My message this week is to focus on the opportunities that are available and keep moving forward.

Update from Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC)

TISC has published some very useful information for Year 12 students and the current situation. It also includes information about UCAT and how to obtain further information.

Did you know about the Special Tertiary Admissions Test? (STAT)

The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) has been developed by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) to assess competencies commonly considered important for success in tertiary study.

In response to COVID-19 new STAT requirements are being developed to cater for 18 and 19 year old school leavers.

Update from Notre Dame

All Notre Dame scheduled on-campus events from now until July will be available online. We are committed to supporting students with additional online resources including the following: Online 1-on-1 Advice Session bookings via our Facebook page. We encourage students to use this option (or phone 08 9433 0533) in lieu of visiting the office in person.

Our live chat feature on Facebook Messenger is available during work hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm).

Update from UWA

New entry options for Year 12 students

We appreciate that the global COVID-19 pandemic is causing a lot of uncertainty at the moment, particularly for students who will be completing Year 12, and we can assure you we are working on ways to support them. These include opening up a variety of alternatives for students hoping to apply to UWA.

That's why we are pleased to announce that we will now be offering three different ways for current Year 12 school leavers in Australia to apply for admission to our main undergraduate degrees – the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Science for 2021 entry. We have made this change so that during this challenging time students are provided with more certainty, support and options should they wish to pursue a UWA degree.

  1. ATAR-based entry
  2. Predicted ATAR entry
  3. Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)

The Predicted ATAR entry pathway is not applicable for Direct Pathways to Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Podiatry.  The STAT test pathway is not available for any Direct Pathways or the Bachelor of Philosophy. The application process for these courses will be communicated shortly.

We’ve responded as quickly as possible so we can put Year 12 students minds at ease during this time of unprecedented uncertainty, more information on the 2021 admissions pathways for Year 12 students will be announced soon and students can register here to stay up-to-date. If you have any questions on the entry pathways, please contact Rick Ackerman (Manager, Assessments).

Please know that our Future Students Centre is here to support you during this time and answer any questions you may have.

  1. In recognition of the unique set of challenges Year 12 students are facing this year, 18 and 19-year-old students who are taking insufficient ATAR-based subjects or are not taking ATAR, will be eligible to sit the STAT test and a diagnostic interview as above.
  2. UWA will provide an offer based on a student’s predicted ATAR from the end of Year 11. We may require a diagnostic interview to identify any additional support they may need, including bridging units, once they arrive at UWA.  At this stage Year 12 students must still sit their Year 12 exams and, when results are released, if their ATAR is higher than their predicted ATAR, they can update their application if they’d like to change their course.
  3. Although it is too early to know if there will be any changes to Year 12 exams, we will still offer our standard entry pathway.
