Counsellor/Wellbeing News

Within my role, I am not just supporting students here at school, but I support parents and extended community members though sharing of rescores. WHY???? Because I am a nice guy (hahaha), but seriously, resources can provide YOU and other family members with some extra tools/skills that are current and researched evidence based, meaning they are tested and effective. In the coming newsletter issues, I will bring some interesting and informative resources and information that may provide helpful.
Parents talk with me during school term and often ask for tips/advice/strategies to help with a current situation they are facing. However, did you know there are many opportunities within the Griffith community for parents who have the children and adolescents who display a range of challenging mood/personality and unhelpful behaviours to learn new (or increase) their knowledge base through workshops run by mental health professionals that are mostly F-R-E-E. That is right F-R-E-E.
Downside-we have to give up an hour of an evening-true, but the sessions are usually conducted in a relaxed environment (they even throw in a cuppa!), with other parents (and professionals, I sometimes participate or help facilitate sessions) which provide relevant information on topic and usually allow group discussion. This is often helpful as parents sometimes collectively share their knowledge with others of similar struggles. If you have not been to a parent information night and you would like support, I strongly encourage parents/carers/partner’s to attend these amazing workshops not only to listen, learn but to share as we are all connected as part of the community spirit!
