Year 10 News
Year 10 have been involved in many different activities over the last few weeks and it is fantastic to say that some of them really are lifting to live our motto: Dare to be something more.
On Wednesday, 25th October, they participated in a Real Talk presentation that linked with the Religion unit, Reverence for Life. The day saw students look at the different relationships they have, the value they place on themselves and the impact of technology on individuals. Whilst the sessions were packed with content, students engaged with all aspects. They listen respectfully and asked meaningful questions, they participated in the group activities with enthusiasm and took time to reflect as individuals. The presenters even commented on how fantastic the group was and their active involvement in all activities.
On Thursday, 26th October, the Year 10’s were invited to attend the MCC Vinnies Sleep Out. With over 50 participants and over 30 choosing to rough the night and sleep at school, and then attend the following day to really experience some of the effects a young homeless person might suffer day to day. The students were able to breakdown several of the myths surrounding homelessness and hopefully change their perception of homeless people. A big thank you must go to Sue Hone, without whom the night would not have been as meaningful and successful. Thank you to the five amazing teachers who stayed the night with the students: Mr Moore, Mr Lyon, Miss Crofts, Miss Suidgeest and Mr Neville and to Mrs Dickie who helped throughout the evening.
This week has also seen the two Year 10 PASS classes participate in an NRL Coaching Clinic. Students have been taught some of the basic rugby league skills and specifically shown how to break these skills down for younger students. This coaching clinic linked with their Term 3 unit on Coaching. The Year 10’s participated with energy and enthusiasm and are now looking forward to running some of the St Patrick’s students through these NRL skills sessions.
Just a reminder that Year 10 Camp is fast approaching and the final day for payments is Monday, 13th November.
