Where are they now?

Clayton Scott Class of 2017

Clayton Scott Class of 2017 will be leaving Echuca-Moama next month and calling Kansas home for the next two years. Studying, living and playing Soccer in Kansas is an opportunity of a lifetime for Clayton who has always wanted to travel overseas and play soccer. “This was a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to learning and developing my soccer over there” said Clayton.

Clayton feels his time at Moama Anglican Grammar has prepared him for the studying element of this exciting experience. Clayton will study in the field of Physical Education and he said “doing PE in school has helped me with the knowledge of the subject and everything to do within the subject”. Studying Athletic Training and Teaching at the University of Kansas and playing soccer has allowed Clayton at the young age of 19 to have already achieved one of his life goals. We wish Clayton all the best for his next two years in Kansas and can’t wait to keep updated on this exciting journey.

Jack Nelson Class of 2017

Congratulations to Jack Nelson Class of 2017, who is the 2018 recipient of the James McInerney Scholarship at Charles Sturt University (CSU). This scholarship covers all of Jack’s residential costs for the duration of his course, including an honours year if he chooses to undertake one. The scholarship is in memory of James McInerney, who studied Agriculture at Wagga in 1956 before going on to graduate in Economics at Sydney University. His family established the scholarship to support the endeavours of students passionate for the study of Agriculture and life on the land.

Jack is studying Agribusiness at the Wagga Wagga campus and his first year subjects include Economics, Botany and Agri Business Systems. Jack’s first year at university has included many achievements and challenges. He believes his schooling, especially studying Agriculture at Moama Anglican Grammar helped prepare him for what lies ahead. Jack said “Compared to the other students who are starting from scratch, I feel I have a head start on the content. What we are learning in our first year is a more in-depth look at Year 12 Agriculture”.

Charles Sturt University encourages all students to apply for scholarships with the message “You do not have to be elite academically but be involved in your communities and be willing to work hard to make a difference”. This is certainly the case for Jack who has always endeavoured to be an avid member of any community he is a part of, in Jack’s own words “this scholarship has given me and any other students who have to really study to achieve acceptable marks to be supported and strive to achieve their dreams”. Jack was encouraged by his lecturers to apply for the James McInerney Scholarship and he is certainly glad he did so. When asked about any advice for current students Jack said “I really encourage anyone to study Agriculture at the Grammar. It is a fun subject and was a driving force to help me decide what I wanted to study at uni”.  We can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Jack, one thing that is for sure it certainly will be Agriculture based!

Patrick Frew Class of 2017

Patrick Frew Class of 2017 Valedictorian is about to embark on the opportunity of a lifetime. From mid-August Patrick will take up residence in Marshall Missouri where he will study as an international student for the next four years at Lindenwood University.  Not only will Patrick be studying at Lindenwood University, his life time dream of living in the USA and playing basketball at college level will finally be realised. Facing many injuries which challenged Patrick both mentally and physically he said “I have always tried to stay focused and driven and now the opportunity has finally been presented to me and I couldn’t be happier”.

This fantastic opportunity came about as a result of NSR Australia a university recruiting program which creates athletic and academic profiles for students wishing to study overseas. NSR look to match students based on their selected sport and area of study. “NSR have been great providing constant information and help with the recruiting process which has resulted in this fantastic opportunity” Patrick said.

This will not be Patrick’s first time overseas travelling to Asia and taking part in the Moama Anglican Grammar 2015 Service Trip to Sri Lanka both extremely rewarding opportunities. Exploring the USA and college life are experiences Patrick is most looking forward to and quite humbly put, Patrick said “being able to meet new people and play the sport I love while studying what I have always wanted to is a dream come true”.

“My time at Moama Anglican Grammar has prepared me for a variety of experiences including tertiary education and I believe it has enabled me to embrace new and different environments such as studying overseas” said Patrick.
