Community

Congratulations to Caitlin Paul in Year 11 who was awarded the Edward River Young Citizen of the Year Award for 2017. Caitlin has been heavily involved in the development of the Deniliquin community through youth leadership, fundraising and school initiatives.

Music

At the  'Dirty Ragtimers', concert at the Echuca Foundry Arts Space in April  two of our students  performed at the beginning of the concert; Cara Haley Year 5, played a number of songs on cello while Isabelle Ferguson Year 7, played a solo and also a duet with her younger sister on violin.

Special Interest

Grace Riddell in Year 5 had an experience of a lifetime over the weekend when she became one of the first ever Australian Grand Prix Grid Kids. Grace received VIP tickets which gave her access to the starting grid, cars and the drivers. Highlights included sitting in the safety car and the drifter car driven by Daniel Ricciardo, receiving autographs from drivers including Vettel, Ricciardo and Hamilton. Grace was even lucky enough to be one of the kids to receive an official race suit and stand in front of the drivers as the national anthem was performed. A fantastic achievement by Grace, an avid gokart driver, and one she will remember forever.

Asha and Miller Davies ran a Jelly Jar competition from Thursday 7 June through to Thursday 14 June to raise money for the Right 2 The Heart Campaign – Watarrka Foundation. The girls wanted to raise some money to send to the Wattarka School so they can build a new building that will students of Wattarka to stay at school beyond Year 6.

The girls set up their stall before and after school and managed to raise $195. The winner of the Jelly Jar was Jenna Hildebrand with a guess of 1053 which was one off the actual number!

Asha and Miller were able to visit the school in the holidays and they brought back an Aboriginal artwork that they presented to the school on Wednesday 18 July.

Well done to Asha and Miller for running this great initiative!
