Year 12 Students

With the HSC being the main focus at the moment, this does not stop the arrival of information for Year 12 students regarding scholarships, jobs, taking a gap year or doing courses at TAFE, private Colleges or University. Students need to continue checking their emails on a regular basis in order not to miss out.

Year 11 Students Beginning Year 12

With Year 12 students engaged with their HSC exams, the incoming Year 12 cohort are concerned with what subjects will make up their pattern of study to take into the HSC year and this includes dropping subjects, changing levels or taking up extension subjects.

Do you make quick and hasty decisions or do you make informed decisions based on research and talking to the right people?

Obviously talking to teachers at the upcoming Parent/Teacher Interview evening is important as is linking any decisions to your future pathways and options. There is no real urgency in making changes as these can be done at the end of the term and even into next year.

UAC provides information and advice on the three vital questions for students for whom university is a goal or an option:

This was shared with students via their Careers Classroom.  Information on course requirements and important knowledge to take into account if students will be applying for Early Entry Schemes at several Universities is available from me in the Careers Adviser's Office and I will be at the Year 11 Parent/Teacher Interview evening.

Jobs for McCarthy’s School Leavers

Already quite a few apprenticeships and traineeships are being advertised both online and in the local paper. Also several gap year positions have come up.  All these positions are promoted to students via the McCarthy Careers Facebook page, Careers Classrooms and morning notices.

Any parents or members of the McCarthy community who are employers looking at employing a school leaver or anyone who works for an employer looking at doing this, is asked to contact me so we can let our students know what is available.
