Director of Mission

Pope John Paul II in his opening of the Fides et Ratio explained in his introduction the importance of knowing yourself. The document goes on to state that life without wonder would fall into a “deadening routine” filled with human beings incapable of a life that is personable. The ultimate truth is therefore understanding that we do not understand all but are blessed with the continual revelation of knowledge. This is wonder, this is ‘the Way, the truth and the life” (Jn14:6). This is our school motto because we understand that we are not an institute of ‘deadening routine’ but human beings in a community of great resources for generating knowledge of truth.

A great warm welcome back to new and previous families of the Marian Community. 2020 is going to once again be a year of ‘wonder’ and discovery of knowledge as students continue to grow to know themselves. There is a clear goal for Marian in 2020 regarding Catholic Life and Witness. As stated in our Annual Improvement Plan Marian has set the priority area as Charism and Witness; Increased staff and student involvement, appreciation, understanding and participation.

In order to do so we have identified three key main areas for development as seen in the graphic below:

Year 7 Welcome Evening

I was privileged to speak to our new Year 7 student and families of 2020 at their first information night last Thursday. Even though we faced a few technical challenges in preparation for most of our presentation and sound equipment failing moments before everyone arrived, the show went on and it was great to see such a large attendance.

I introduced everyone to our Vision and Mission, and proposed ways in which they can contribute to our vision of a vibrant faith filled community of learning through action. We are a school of faith, learning, stewardship, service and care. It is through these elements that we provide a holistic approach to every student's learning. Knowing the power they then will hold to make an impact in all facets of the wider community. There are so many opportunities at our wonderful college and it is simply a matter of putting up your hand and asking the right person the right question. Below are some of the contacts in our RE and Mission Team that can assist with your child contributing fully to the vision of Marian.

Staff Spirituality Meeting

On Wednesday all staff participated in a Mercy and Mission at Marian in 2020 session. We were fortunate enough to have the Mercy Sisters, Sr Thersa and Sr Tricia present to the staff as part of the session. We were able to cover:

- Work Teach and Lead Accreditation

- Encouraging us all to build our confidence with Acknowledgement to Country. Feel free to contact me if you need any support or resources for this.

- Our Foundations of Mercy and what does Ministry look like today.

- Reminder of our Mission and Vision and how our students live this at MCC.

- Introduction to new RE team initiatives for staff spiritual wellbeing.

We were then able to share a short meal after the extended meeting. A big thank you to everyone involved.

Other News....

Please see Ms Sue Hone’s page for our exciting new fundraising initiative this term. Term is normally reserved for Project Compassion but in light of recent events the decision was made to concentrate on relevant local issues and the attention needed by our local wildlife. More to come after we launch late next week.

Thanks to all of those who have provided feedback and I welcome any other constructive advice or suggestions on how to continue to support you in faith and mission here at MCC.

Have a great weekend.

Kind Regards

Heath Neville
