Australian Mathematics Competition

Marian Catholic College will participate in this year’s Australian Mathematics Competition, on Thursday, July 30.

 

The Competition started in Australia in 1978, was the original, and is now one of the largest of its kind in the world. More than 40 countries participate in the AMC each year and is recognised as an international benchmark for mathematics performance. It features unique problems designed by Australia’s leading educators and academics, with the goal to demonstrate the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ every day lives.

 

The Competition consists of 30 questions, 25 of which is a multiple choice questions, and 5 questions require a number answers. Duration of the test will be for 75 minutes. It will be held in the hall during Periods 1 and 2. Students need to bring a 2B pencil and an eraser only. No calculator is allowed.

2020 Maths Challenge

The College will again enter in this year’s Maths Challenge. This is one program of Math Young Australians. It is designed to motivate and stimulate mathematically interested students. It caters to a wide range of abilities – from challenges that introduce problem-solving concepts through to enrichment studies.

 

Maths Challenge is a fun problem-solving program for students in Years 7-10, designed to extend their mathematical skills. Interesting problems are presented in a staged approach meant to encourage critical thinking. Taken individually or as a small group. It runs over three or four weeks starting towards the end of Term 1 and finishing at the start of term 2.
