Commerce Small Business

Commerce Small Business CAT by Angel Archer
Recently, Commerce students were required to plan, execute and evaluate the performance of our own small business. We had to think of what our business would sell to consumers, when and where our business would transpire and we also had to advertise our business to fellow students and teachers through posters, announcements or over social media websites, such as Facebook.
There were a variety of products on sale, such as recycled school uniforms, photos, baked goods, pancakes, burgers, chicken wings, smoothies and milkshakes. Other groups ran competitions as their small business, such as a basketball shootouts, computer games, raffles and “how many lollies in the jar” competitions. The profits we made were donated to the RSPCA, a homeless charity and cancer research foundations.
I enjoyed doing this task as it was an insight as to how businesses are usually set up and planned by entrepreneurs. Throughout this task, working as a team we were able to learn how to make a product appealing to consumers and also how a small business is planned and thought through, as well as the design and reasoning behind establishing your own business.
Thank you to the students and staff who purchased our products and got involved in our activities. Thank you also to all of the teachers who supported the students who ran their business by helping with the organisation and supervision of the ventures. Finally, thank you to all of the students who participated in the CAT and ran their own small businesses.
