SRC NEWS by Leanne Corrie, 2018 Co-Ordinator

It has been an amazing year for our 2018 SRC. This group of students have been enthusiastic and motivated in being active to promote student voice and school pride within the college.

The biggest success for this year’s group has been our first time being involved in the VicSRC Ignite, Teach The Teacher program. This term, the SRC had their final debriefing reflection session with Vic SRC presenters, Annie Rowland, Projects Co-Ordinator and Nina Laitala, Executive Officer since delivering the professional development session to the teaching staff in August this year. Annie and Nina were blown away with the way our students conducted themselves and in their ability to articulate their involvement and share their successes. Most importantly, this debrief highlighted the impact this session with teachers and the Ignite program has had and all evidence pointing to student voice continuing to be strongly heard in 2019.

Annie Rowland from Vic SRC personally praised the skill set the SRC have demonstrated mentioning– organizational; research; critical analysis; public speaking; facilitating robust conversations; problem solving; time management; being courageous – this all adding to the student’s experience of school and indeed, their sense of self.

So successful has our SRC been that the Vic SRC has chosen our college’s 2018 Student Representative Council to be involved in creating a new promotional video resource in partnership with Angry Chair Productions.  The purpose of this documentary film is for our SRC team to help capture the Teach The Teacher experience and celebrate the program’s achievements and communicate MCC’s success story to other schools across Victoria.

“What a great way to finish a long, rewarding and wonderful career at MCC. It has been a privilege to work with the 2018 SRC. You are all amazing and inspirational young people. I wish you and all of the students at MCC all the best for your life journeys ahead. I will miss the MCC College Community”
