So much to celebrate

With Headstart around the corner (commences Wednesday 21st November after the two Student Free Days)  it is important that all students finish strong, as it is really the start of the (next) year!

Our recent School Review celebrated the many highlights we have had in the past four years, including last year’s excellent VCE results (only two schools in a 30 km radius had a slightly higher average VCE All Study Score). What we are most proud of however is not just academic results but rather what our students –past and present - actually achieve and what it means both for them on an individual level as well as helping to build school pride.

We have so many students doing great things and pushing themselves to do their best including recent State Athletics finalists Mikayla Williamson (800m & 1500m) and Phoenix Brennan (High Jump). They should be commended on their efforts in getting to the final 8 competitors in Victoria. Despite coming up against some very tough and highly trained opposition at the Albert Park Lakeside track they both did the college proud!

We also love to hear about ex-students who are achieving success and encourage McClelland community members to keep us informed. Here are just a few great stories we’ve heard about since our last edition of COG.

Rye Shawcroft - Invictus Games participant

Last year we shared a post about ex student Rye Shawcroft who despite being in a wheelchair participated in Tough Mudder. He is currently participating in the Wheelchair Basketball and Sitting Volleyball at the Invictus Games in Sydney. He has continued to not let his physical challenges define him and should be an inspiration to us all when times are tough.

Genevieve Edwards

Another ex-student kicking goals is Genevieve Edwards who is featured in this month’s Royal Auto magazine. She is currently an apprentice at Braeside Automotive where she works alongside her mother Jillian and should be an inspiration to all students interested in achieving their dreams. I'd recommend you read the article and find out about what Genevieve is doing with her life as she follows her passion.

Positive Feedback through our website

'I just wanted to say I was stopped at the pedestrian crossing lights outside Ballam Park yesterday and it was awesome to see teenage boys who waved, said thanks, and even a peace gesture to the crossing lady. Well done lads.'
