Year 10 News

Year 10 Access Monash Team

Last week the students participating in the year 10 Access Monash program attended the Champions’ Presentation day at the Peninsula Campus of Monash University.

The Access Monash program provided mentor students from Monash University who worked with a group of year 10 students over the course of the year to develop strategies and plan events to help raise awareness of an important social issue.

This year the year 10 Access Monash team chose to focus on raising awareness within the school community about domestic violence. The students were able to report to the other participating schools that they successfully organised a range of activities including a free dress day the raised funds for the White Ribbon Australia, an organisation that campaigns to build a future free from violence and abuse. The students also arranged a student assembly that featured guest speaker Kaylen Wynn. Kaylene is an author, psychotherapist and counsellor who works with victims of domestic abuse and was herself a victim of domestic violence for many years in the past.

The Access Monash program is running again next year and any students who are interested in getting involved in the program are encouraged to contact Mr Nemanja Lojanica or Miss Kara Dunstan at year 9 or Mrs Alison Ward or Mr Rowly Richardson at Year 10.

Congratulations to the year 10 Access Monash Team: Lauren Chitty, Catherine Curran, Ainsley Macpherson, Ella Roberts, Jerusha Venn and Hamish Walker.
