Teach the Teacher Program

On Tuesday August 28th, 2018 the SRC proudly presented a PD session to the whole teaching staff for the VicSRC Ignite Teach The Teacher Program. This program has been running for the year with the aim to give students a voice in their education about matters that really matter.

The session was a huge success that began with school captains, Eliza Scott and Kaycee Gunn-Cameron opening the procedures and the first activity, 'Do you know your SRC?’ An ice- breaker led by the year eight representatives, Cai Venn and Rohan Pettigrove, ‘Heads Down, Thumbs Up’, and then followed this up. It was a fun activity that began the evening on a positive light.

School Captain, Luke Janson then introduced the Six Thinking Hats Game and the power of the hats to think more deeply about the focus for the PD- student motivation and engagement in the classroom.

This was followed by a great speech from our Year 9 student, Vivone Street who spoke about the aims and focus for the session.

School Captain Sara Riippa then led the thinking hats session, which had all SRC students and teachers, engaged in lively discussions. The SRC students then reported back to the staff their tables discussions and strategies for action. These students were DJ McFarlane, Angus Archard, Brianna Worrell, Kyle Fabiyanic, Samantha Gardiner, Ashlee Collett, Kaitlyn Taylor, Luke Janson and Kaycee Gunn Cameron.

Eliza Scott finished the Thinking Hats with what’s been learned and where to from here. The teachers tweeted their response to the SRC.

The Year Sevens, Angus Archard, Dylan Allan and Brianna Worrell ended with the whole staff playing, Epic Win/Epic Fail.

Big thanks to Sarah Garnier for developing an epic power point presentation.

Thanks to all of the support teachers, Mrs Leanne Corrie, Mrs Jenny Holt, Mrs Robyn Andrews and Ms Laura Murphy.

All agreed the session was an epic WIN!
