National Apology Day

Today (13th of February) is National Apology Day, the anniversary of then Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, delivering the National Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples, especially the Stolen Generations, on the 13th of February 2008. This is an incredibly important day and we respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners of the land which our amazing school is situated upon.

We encourage everyone to take a moment and visit https://www.australianunity.com.au/about-us/reconciliation-action-plan/national-apology-day to learn more about this historic day.

Tuning in to Kids

We have an amazing opportunity for our parents to develop their own parenting skills. We have partnered with Tuning in to Kids and the University of Melbourne to be able to offer parent training sessions from our school. These sessions can include one on one sessions, group sessions and online seminars to help your child to better manage and understand emotions, to better regulate behaviours and to develop social skills.

If you would like more information or would like to sign up please call 9371 0218 or email BigTIK-admin@unimelb.edu.au. If you do not have phone credit to make the call please speak to the office and you will be able to use one of our phones. This is a fantastic opportunity to further build your connection with your child.

Financial Assistance for Parents

Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s background and their outcomes. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child. The annual CSEF amount per student is $125 for primary students.

New applicants should contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or download from www.education.vic.gov.au/csef. If you applied for the CSEF in 2019, you do not need to complete an application form in 2020 unless there has been a change in your family circumstances. You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred:

  • New student enrolment - your child has started or changed schools in 2020, or you did not apply in 2019.
  • Changed family circumstances - such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing at the school in 2020.
  • Please check with the school office if you are unsure.

Lego Club and Board Games Club

Lego Club will be starting up again next week and we are still looking to start up our Board Games lunchtime club soon. If you wish to volunteer for either of these please get in touch with the office. Furthermore, we are still looking for donations of board games or Lego to go into both the clubs and the classrooms themselves, so if you have any Lego or board games that are not being used we would love to make use of them.
