Teaching & Learning 2020

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
Learning Intentions and Success Criteria are used in your child’s classroom to ensure that all students know what they are learning and where they are heading. They provide the basis for feedback and reduce discrepancies between current student understanding and intended learning. Students use these to track their progress and understand how they can improve.
Learning Intentions are descriptions of what learners should know, understand and be able to do by the end of a learning period or unit. Learning intentions are the basis for tracking student progress, providing feedback and assessing achievement. In addition to learning intentions, students may also have individual learning goals that they address in their learning.
Success criteria are the measures used to determine whether, and how well, learners have met the learning intentions.
Spelling Mastery
Spelling Mastery is a six-level Direct Instruction program that teaches students dependable spelling skills by blending three approaches: the phonemic approach, the whole word approach and the morphemic approach. Your child has been tested and placed in a group that matches their spelling ability.
Look out for our first episode of ‘Behind the Classroom Door’ on our Facebook page. In this weeks’ episode you will visit Spelling Mastery and InititaLit lessons and see how these lessons are run.
