The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde

This year’s production has completed it’s very well received and successful run.

It was a pleasure to both see the leadership of the year 12s and the cooperation and hard work of all of the cast and crew. I was able to meet students that I normally don’t have much to do with and see how they dealt with the rigours and stress of a demanding production. I was impressed and proud to be teaching at a school where the passion and vision of senior students was able to flourish through a performance and leadership opportunity such as this.

I have lost count of the productions I’ve been involved with over my years of teaching and whilst I’ve enjoyed all of them, I’ve never felt comfortable with allowing so much student leadership and control. In fact I was ready and expecting to have to take over and salvage what remained once people (being people) buckled and quit under the stress of a looming deadline. That didn’t happen… in fact the friendships and bond of the crew and all associated with the show was evident in the tears of joy and outpouring of emotion on the last night.

In the program I described myself as ‘the adult in the room’, as a person who loves performing, and enjoys being in control, this was difficult for me to do, but I’m glad that I had the faith in our students to let go. It has become a fond memory now, but one that they will carry with them for their entire lives.

Well done and thank you to all concerned.

The Dungeon Series

The September dungeon concert is not happening as the last Thursday of the month happens in the school holidays. With the production’s time and effort, it’s a good month to miss. We will be back in October as usual 7.00pm on the last Thursday which is the 31st. The area has some wonderful new editions with new lights for the front of stage area… thank you again Roger! There are also some exciting plans for a revamped seating area so stay tuned for that.

The last dungeon concert was short but oh so special for the Saxophone group. Their first performance of both ‘Hotel California’ and the fabulous ‘Baker Street’ are definite highlights for me, and evidently for the audience.
