Year 11 Agriculture Excursion

Year 11 Agriculture Excursion

Last week the Year 11 students studying Agriculture visited a local business, Windemere Oil Seeds. This business is dedicated to producing food grade oils from raw products. They were looking at  value- adding processes in Agriculture. Crushing of canola seed resulted in both oil and the residual ‘meal’ that was used for many different foods for livestock. The process was almost completely automated and only required intervention if there was a problem or breakdown. After seeing the mill they then visited a local farm to see a relatively new variety of canola being grown that is sown as a spring/summer feed for lambs and then harvested almost 12 months later.
