SMC rowers race to success

The College's run of rowing success has continued with the outstanding achievements of our girls at the 2019/2020 Tasmanian club championships held recently at Lake Barrington.

In a spectacular result for the College, Kate Oliver and Sophie E Robinson were named as the winning pair in both the Under 21 Division and Women's Division, making them the youngest duo to have ever won the senior championships. What an amazing achievement!

Key results from the championships are as follows:

  • Kate Oliver was part of the winning Under 21 coxed four.
  • Kate Oliver, Sophie E Robinson and Maddison Lamb were part of the Under 21 winning eight.
  • Phoebe Teale was part of the winning Women’s Eight.
  • Sophie E Robinson and Kate Oliver were part of the Under 19 coxless four.

Congratulations also to Phoebe Teale, Sophie E Robinson and Kate Oliver who have been selected to represent Tasmania in the Under 21 Youth Eight at the 2020 National Rowing Championships.

A very commendable performance by all. Well done, SMC!

The rowing season will culminate with the Head of the River Regatta to be held at Lake Barrington on Saturday 21 March, which will include a picturesque luncheon by the river.

Students have a blast at Big Splash

St Mary's College Senior School students showed how teamwork makes the dreamwork at yesterday's Big Splash carnival (Tuesday 3 March).

House spirit and strong competition were present from the rainbow hues of House costumes, the cheering and the wonderful participation in a range of water challenges and events.

Thank you to staff, House Captains and everyone who was involved in the organisation and running of the day.
