Twilight Swimming Carnival

The inaugural swimming gala, held on Thursday 14th February had a terrific atmosphere and was enjoyed by all who attended. The swimmers were well encouraged by the supporters with many students dressed up in their house colours adding to the atmosphere.  Mr Molyneux - the DJ - kept the music going,  and a P&C run BBQ kept everyone sustained.

Thank you to all the parents who attended to support their children.

Futsal @ ASC

Futsal has already started with a large number of students already expressing their interest in participating in this highly skilled and fast paced sport. ASC will nominate teams for the upcoming New England School titles held in Armidale on the 28th and 29th of March. This tournament is the first stage for school teams qualifying for National Tournaments and individual players being selected in regional/state and national representative teams.

In order to prepare for the New England Tournament, every Friday in the ASC Gym is Futsal Friday. Futsal Friday is composed of structured game based futsal training and sessions will be used to select students for respective school representative teams. Futsal Friday is open to all students of all ages with recesses being structured towards students in stage 4 and lunches for stages 5 & 6.

All students interested in Futsal are recommended to join the ASC Futsal Google Classroom - class code 410jy6f to gain access to coaching and skill development materials.

Rugby League & Union

Extensive Rugby League and Union opportunities are available to our students in 2019. There are many boys and girls competitions and gala days that ASC will be entering. The mascot for ASC is the eagle. Students signing up for ASC Eagles League and Union teams will be requird to enter into a Code of Conduct Contract. This is a three way agreement between the school, student and parent/guardian regarding expectations. Breaches in the contract may result in exclusion from  League and Union opportunities.

Opportunities for students in 2019 include but are not limited to:

  • New England Zone RL Trials
  • North West RL Trials
  • NRL Country Cup
  • University Shield KO (Opens)
  • Buckley Shield State Knockout
  • North West RU Trials
  • UNE Rugby 7s KO
  • Friday Night Regional RU
  • UNE 7s Friday Night RU
  • NRL Country Cup RL
  • Waratah Shield KO RU
  • Buchanan Shield KO RU

Students are also required to have a season permission note signed and returned to the school before they can participate in Rugby League or Union functions in Armidale. This includes home games, training sessions visits by NRL, NSWRL,NSWRU and ARU players and officials.

Visit from NRL Players

We were visited by current NRL player Tim Mannah and former players Joe Galuvao and Nathan Friend. The NRL players were generous with their time and mingled with students at school during recess.

The trio also spent time in our English language support unit talking with the Yazidi students. The students asked the players questions and could relate to Tim Mannah's own personal story of his parent's coming from war torn Lebanon and his development as a professional rugby league player. All 37 Yazidis students agreed they will support Tim Mannah and the Parramatta Eels this year in the upcoming NRL season. Tim quipped "Well at least we'll have at least 37 supporters this year!".

Thank you ever so much Tim, Joe and Nathan for your time. Your visit was indeed a highlight for our students!

Archery

A big congratulations to sharp-shooter Ella-rose who recently competed in the Australia Day Tournament in Canberra as part of the National Match Play series, and WON!

Very impressive indeed Ella-rose!
