Captains Corner

"We thought Term 4 last year was jammed pack, only two weeks into Term 1 at Armidale Secondary College and we have heaps going on as a leadership group and school community. Each Monday we have been attending year meetings and the stage 5 assembly, getting to know more students and vice versa!!

"We were super excited about organising Valentines day and bringing love to the new school - the same day as our Twilight swimming carnival.

"Caitlin Schuman (Sports Captain) has been keenly organising participation for Relay for Life on the 23rd of February, we are hoping to see as many community members as possible helping our ASC team raise money for the Cancer Council.

"All in all it has so far been a bit crazy but a very exciting two weeks for the captains! Very eager for the year ahead and together being ASC!”

Senior Success Program

The first session for Year 11s and their support person, will be on Monday, 25th February.

Oral Waste Recycling

Due to the success of the Oral Care and Cosmetic Recycling programs implemented previously, we have decided in Science to continue our recycling efforts this year as Armidale Secondary College.  This year, Year 8 Orange will be looking at the scientific processes involved in recycling and will therefore be participating in the Terracycle Australia Oral Care Waste Recycling Initiative.

This initiative allows schools and organisations around Australia to collect oral care waste (everything from empty toothpaste boxes and tubes, to used toothbrushes and floss containers) to send away for recycling and upcycling. A great way to teach our students about the importance of recycling the waste we create and to show them that every little bit counts!

We would like to encourage all ASC teachers, students and families to contribute to our recycling efforts by bringing in their oral care waste to Miss Labrosse in the Science staffroom.

New Build Update

Work has commenced on the new $117million Armidale Secondary College with the ceremonial first sod being turned by Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall, Principal Caz Lasker, Project Liaison Officer Kris Croft and Director Educational Leadership Armidale Pat Cavanagh on Monday 4th February.

The perimeter security fence and site offices have been erected by contractors, Richard Crookes Constructions and preliminary works are underway.

The DEN will still be available for school and community use for some time, with separate fencing isolating it from the construction zone and entry via Butler Street.

With significant enhancement of the agriculture area, a new shed and cattle yards are currently being constructed and accessible via a new entry point on Barry Street.

Schools Infrastructure NSW will shortly be providing written advice to local residents around the timeframe for the commencement of demolition and civics works.

P & C Run Canteen

The "Snack Shack" school canteen , operated as a P&C initiative, is open before school, during recess and during lunch.

The canteen follows the requirements of the Healthy Schools initiative, and offers a wide range of hot and cold menu items.

Profits raised by the canteen are used within the school to purchase student resources across a broad scope of programs: academic, sport, music and drama, technology, landscaping and infrastructure maintenance. In previous years the canteen has annually provided between $20,000 and $30,000 for school activities.
