House Reports

Belfast

What’s been happening in BELFAST this term?

This term our student leaders have been continuing to work on their three SMART goals that they developed at the end of Semester One leadership session. These goals are as follows:

1. Students want to be able to relate and connect with teachers.

2. Students want to know when they do a good job

3. Communicate data with the Belfast house

Over the next few weeks we will begin the process of selecting our 2020 Belfast Student Leadership Group and house captains. Any Belfast students who are interested in being involved in House Leadership should drop in at the office and get a leadership nomination form in the next two weeks.

Our current student leaders will be working on our Smart goals after school in Week 9 followed by a fitness session in the HPC and then tea at Zambreros.

We have a number of Belfast students involved in Football, Netball, Hockey and Soccer finals over the next few weeks and we wish them all the best as their respective seasons come to an end.

Our Warrnambool College musical “Hairspray” received rave reviews and it was fantastic to see the following Belfast students either perform on stage or support off stage over last weekend: Eliza Hoffman, Akira Earnshaw, Airlie Obrien, Pyper Templeton, Sam Nicholson, Tom Hughes, Alex Austin, Keisha Shaw and Hayden Giblin.

We also had some students involved in the Warrnambool Eisteddfod. Special mention to the following students: Eliza McLauchlan, Eliza Hoffman, Klara Holland for winning the “Best debating team award” and Eliza Hoffman for the “Best debatator”. Well done!

A number of our Belfast students and families attended the recent Resilience Project event at the Lighthouse Theatre. We want to encourage all our students to practise, both at school and at home, the messages pushed through this organisation. In particular:

  • Practise reflecting on what you are Grateful for in your life, write these down and reflect on them daily
  • Learn to show Empathy to other people and not just people in your inner circle
  • Practise enjoying and staying in the “moment” through Mindfulness

Finally a reminder to all students that footballs and Basketballs are available for sale at the Belfast office for $5 each with all money going to Oxfam and the Lookout project.
