Pardey Shield

Congratulations to Eliane Fader and Ben Cawston, the 2018 winners of the Pardey Shield, the most prestigious Tennis Competition in Tasmania.

The unique Pardey Shield competition has run for 101 years and our talented Eliane now has the honour of being a two-time winner of this event (winning the 2017 and 2018 competitions).

AFL Girls Kicking Goals

Our AFL Girls Firsts team is on their way to the state finals this weekend to play St Patricks College. We fielded our first AFL girls team in 2017 with fantastic results. This year we came close to fielding two girls firsts teams thanks to the enthusiasm that the Friends' girls have shown for the sport.

"I love playing in the Friends' Girls Footy team because there's an amazing level of excitement playing in such a new competition, this only being the second year of the girls AFL season and the first year there has been a State Grand Final so it feels like we are pioneers of the competition in a way. The girls believe in each other and our coach Steve believes in us, that makes our team what it is and what gives us a great chance to come home being the first ever Friends' State final winners."

- Selamawit Bennett (Year 12), AFL Girls Firsts Team Member.

We wish our girls luck this weekend and we hope they will be an inspiration for future Friends' girls to take up AFL.

If you are in the North of the State this weekend head on over to St Patrick’s College at 10am on Saturday to cheer our girls on!

Stef's Swimming Gold

In April this year, I competed at the Australian Age Championships in Sydney.  I had a very successful Championships, coming away with a gold medal and being named the Australian Age Champion in the 14-year-old girls’ 50m freestyle as well as winning a silver medal in the 100m freestyle. In the process, I set new Tasmanian Open and Age records in the 50m and 100m freestyle as well as being the anchor leg of our club relay team which set a new Tasmanian record for the Open 4 x 200m freestyle relay by over six seconds.  I also had top-five finishes in the 200m freestyle, the 800m freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley.

I had an amazing week at Nationals and it has given me even more motivation to continue to work hard in my training and focus on my goals for the year ahead.  I received so much support from everyone at school, especially my friends, my Tutor Nicola Collins and my Dance teacher Casey-Rae McCrickard who live streamed one of my races in the Maldives!
