Staff Profile

Mark Febey - Primary Years Teacher

How long ago did you join The Friends' School?

I began teaching at The Friends’ School in 2008.

What are you excited about this year?

I really appreciate the diversity of experiences that the School offers, but the for me the daily contact with students remains a highlight. Helping each new group of students to excel at a personal level and as a collective in their learning community is exciting and rewarding. Sharing this time is a precious gift.

When did you know you wanted to become a teacher?

I happened to be working with young adults, teaching team leadership in 2000, and it was at this time that I realised I  had a passion for helping others to learn. I subsequently set a course towards becoming a teacher.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I think anywhere there is great food and cultural diversity, but in terms of geography, I think the top end of Australia is quite special.

Why Friends?

The values promoted by the school were the first thing that attracted me and now knowing that they are not just words, but are living through the actions of the community on a daily basis I am grateful for the opportunity.

Who is your "hero"?

I don’t have any one hero, but I am inspired by those of all ages who have the courage to follow their passions, be selfless in their dedication to helping others, speak the truth and stand up for the things that they believe are right.
