Student letters to Wuhan school sparks penpal program.
Dear community,
You may have noticed the coloured keys in and around the school.
These keys are to act as reminders of our school’s social and emotional development program. “You Can Do It” was developed in Australia, at the University of Melbourne by Professor Michael Bernard.
It is a program with the goal of fostering the social and emotional development of children, assisting them to develop to their full potential. With a common theme of developing resilience in students.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is taught explicitly through the "You Can Do It program".
This week students were buddied up to work on our school values of; Confidence, Respect, Independence, Resilience and Persistence.
Their thinking was captured on paper which was then scanned into a single document for sharing with the community. Some of these can be seen in this weeks newsletter.

Wuhan Student Visit cancelled
Even though the visit by Wuhan School Students have been cancelled, we are endeavouring to set up a pen-pal program later in the year when they are able to go back to their school.
In the meantime some of our students have written letters to the students and a representative from the province visited Mrs Wright and I to pick them up.
They were excited that our students had gone to the effort of translating some of their work in to Chinese. IPS will also be sending some of our redundant library books to their school to resource their English program.
Firstly, thank you to all those who stood for election. The positions were well contested and the results very close. There are many ways in which to contribute to the school and sub committees of School Council will be formed shortly and members will be called for.
The following parents have been elected to School Council. Congratulations to Kerri Fuller, Kelly Toghill, Glenn Anderson, Julia Shea, Erwin Susanto and Cathryn Atkinson. We welcome Sue Kelly as new teacher member.
They join returning councillors: Sonia Denisenko, Prue Vermiglio, Andrew Read, Leanne Anstee, Leigh Morrison, Pam Wright and myself.
The first meeting of School Council will be in the evening of Wednesday the 4th of March with the first order of business the election of office bearers.
Privacy settings are extremely important.
Make sure your child has all their privacy settings completed for all the apps and social media tools they use. These settings are not set by default. Remind your child that nothing is private online and everything can be shared so they should be very careful what they post online.
Remember some social media apps have age restrictions.
Keep engaged in what your kids are up to and keep them safe online.
Some children are more tech savvy than their parents. I recently found this video quite helpful for explaining how to setup Your child's first iPad or iPhone to keep them safe.
A Junior School Council Initiative

Have a wonderful week.
