Principal's Chat

A very warm welcome back to Term 3. This term is shaping up to be an exciting & busy term with many opportunities for engagement in school, parish & community events.

As you are aware Jennifer retired at the end of Term 2.  Justin Hilton has been appointed Principal of OLSC and will be joining us at the beginning of the 2020 school year. In the interim I will be Acting Principal & Paul  Acting Deputy . We are both looking forward to keeping things ticking over smoothly & working in partnership with all our families.  Please remember the door is always open.

Staff News:

Special welcome to Nathan & Shalomi as they join the OLSC team. You will find Nathan in LC2 and Shalome in LC1 be sure to pop in & say hello. Hayley is now the leader of Learning Centre 4.

Review:

At the end of Term 2 OLSC was involved in a school review.  The review process happens every four years, is facilitated by outside agencies & the recommendations made are a springboard for planning the future direction of our school.  The review panel met with staff, students & parents. As a community we should be extremely proud of the feedback we received about our school.  We were commended for:

  • the obvious and strong sense of pride that parents, students and staff have in the school
  • the manner in which the school expresses its faith through its lived commitment to its motto
  • ‘every child is valued’. This is an integral part of the fabric of the school.
  • the diligent and detailed manner OLSC has documented quality whole-of-school curriculum plans for all learning areas which provide a consistent shared vision for curriculum delivery and assessment across years of schooling, including the capabilities
  • the collaboratively developed ‘agreed practice’ position statements as articulated in an
  • extensive set of policies across all operational areas, especially to establish school-wide consistent expectations for the work of teachers and behaviour expectations for students
  • the respectful, safe, tolerant and inclusive learning environment at OLSC.

The school Improvement plan for the next 4 years will be formulated when we have Justin on board.

Communication

We have two main forms of communication at OLSC.  The newsletter & DOJO.  If you have not connected to DOJO yet please do & contact your child's teacher for the details.

Check out the Important Dates page where we have put all the dates we have so far for Term 3.  Make sure you put them in your diary.

Learning Conversations

In a Learning Conversation, the students tell the story of their learning, to their parents and learning group teacher. They are in charge of explaining their progress, reflecting on accomplishments, and setting short and long-term goals. It is an opportunity for students to make learning active, to self-reflect and evaluate performance, and to discover who they are as learners. They use evidence to showcase their strengths and set goals to improve in areas of challenge.  They are a vital link in each child's learning journey.  These will be held in Week 3 and we ask all parents to book in for a learning conversation to share their child's learning journey.  Bookings will be open on Monday & the link will be sent via DOJO.

During the Learning Conversation we will have a short questionnaire for parents to fill in regarding school reports.  It is an ideal time to get your feedback re the reports and what works for you.

Looking forward to working in partnership with you all.

Cheers

Sandy
