Attendance

It is vital that our students everyday are at school, on time, and ready to learn!

KEY TALKING POINTS

It is important for students to establish positive attendance patterns from the start of the school year.

Please actively encourage and monitor student attendance from the first day of Term 1, 2023.

Regular attendance is essential to support every child’s learning, wellbeing and safety. Every school staff member can play a positive role in encouraging and supporting all students to attend school.

We’re excited to welcome your child back into the classroom for 2023!

  • Being at school is critical for your child’s learning and mental, physical, and social well-being. Every day of attending school counts.
  • You and your child are important to our school’s community, and we are looking forward to welcoming your child back to school from the start of Term 1.
  • If you need assistance, please contact the school as we'll support our students and their families to receive the support required to maximise attendance at school.
  • We want to support your child to have a positive start to the year. We will do this by:
    • helping your child to re-establish positive school attendance routines,
    • working with you with respect to your child’s well-being and learning needs,
    • ensuring we understand where your child is up to with their learning and social-emotional development, where required providing targeted support to help them progress,
    • considering whether our school’s well-being staff and programs can help to support your child’s needs.

We provide a WIDE range of support for students

We understand that the reasons for not attending school can be complex. As a school, we have access to a range of staff and programs that can provide additional support for your child, depending on their needs. This includes:

  • Tutors – we will have tutors at the school to work from term 2 to run small focus groups  to help them catch up on their learning,
  • Fresh Fruit EVERY Day! – Our school provides free, fresh fruit every day for students who require it,
  • Staff with expertise in mental health who can provide direct support to students or refer them to relevant external services for additional support,
  • Your child may need an Individual Attendance Plan which can help everyone involved to understand and implement the goals and strategies to help them with their attendance,
  • Where intensive support is needed to improve your child’s attendance, we can put in place a Student Support Group to assist with understanding their needs and developing a comprehensive support plan,
  • We can connect with the department’s Student Support Services who can respond to a range of student health and well-being needs,
  • We can also help connect you to a range of services outside of school that can assist you and your child.
